‘Hello Wendy!’ The joyful sound of Rhonda’s voice made me smile. ‘It was a Granlosa cell tumour confined to the ovary.’ My surgeon continued the message, ‘Great news, the rest of the lab tests came back negative. You won’t need any more treatment, just follow up tests and regular checkups. I look forward to seeing you at your checkup on Thursday. Have a great weekend.’
Sitting for a moment, I felt a few tears run down my cheek. I smiled. I breathed in and out… deeply.
I texted a group family message and called my partner. A sense of ease for all of us, knowing the outcome of the tests gave us a sense of what’s now… here in this moment.
After my check up on Thursday I will go home and rest. No choices to be made about chemo or other treatment.
The last six weeks have been priceless and a blessing – to turn to practice, to lean into impermanence, uncertainty, my vulnerability and strengths.
Simple awareness of the present moment.
