Last weekend, Julian and Clarisse were married in the meditation hall at Bundagen, on a warm afternoon surrounded by the tall, cool rainforest. Their family and friends overflowed onto the decks of this beautiful, quiet space. Family had flown in from Brazil and there were copies of the ceremony available that had been translated into Portuguese.
Julian’s dad, Mike, had written lyrics to the famous song sung by Elvis Presley, Can’t Help Falling in Love. Mike thought he would like to sing, with his guitar and harmonica, during the signing. However, my experience is that often couples are so engaged with the signing they don’t really hear the song.
Instead, Mike sang his version as the closing song. All the guests had a copy of the words and joined in with resounding enthusiasm. I get goosebumps just writing this post as I can still hear the singing! Listening and feeling everyone’s voices, love and joy as they sang to Clarisse and Julian was very moving.
Mike played a refrain on the harmonica after the lyrics were finished which gave the cue for Julian and Clarisse to walk out of the space to everyone clapping and cheering.
I have been at a few ceremonies where guests are invited to singalong and it never fails to touch me.
Wise men say ‘only fools rush in’ but they can’t help falling in love, it’s true.
They took their hands for their whole life through for they can’t help falling in love, it’s true.
Like a river flows surely to the sea. Darling, so it goes, some things are meant to be.
They took their hands for their whole life through for they can’t help falling in love, it’s true.
May they live in love all their lives.
