‘Talking about sex won’t make you pregnant, and talking about death won’t make you dead.’
Bringing together local industry experts in the End Of Life Field on Sunday 4th August 2024, 9am-1pm at Woopi Gardens
Talking about death doesn’t have to be morbid. Rani Foreman (End Of Life Doula) and Wendy Haynes (Funeral Celebrant) are organising a Community Expo in Woolgoolga. There’s going to be a lot of conversations about ageing, death and dying, love and loss! We have some of our very friendly local funeral directors, celebrants, death doulas and educators who are very easy to chat with and can answer any questions you have about ageing, death, dying and funeral planning.
‘I don’t want my family to have to pay for my funeral.’
‘I don’t want a funeral.’
‘How will I know that my family will follow my wishes?’
‘Who will take care of my pet?’
‘I don’t want to be resuscitated, how do I tell my family?’
Exhibitors include: Funeral services, funeral celebrant, grief counsellor, death doula, Angel Gowns, Anthroposophical Palliative Care group, education courses, solicitor and wills and Advanced Care Directive info, aged care information + more. A local solicitor will talk about wills, Power of Attorneys and other legals things in a way that you can understand. A local choir will open the event and there will be a one hour Q&A panel with a palliative care GP; solicitor & holistic funeral director. We will finish the day with death trivia! What questions do you have?
‘What will happen if I die without a will?’
‘I live alone. If I become seriously ill who will look after me?’ ‘
My partner is very ill, how will I manage as they age and I find it hard? What are my options?’
‘What happens if I die without a way to pay for death expenses?’
‘I’m not planning on dying anytime soon. Why should I come to the expo?’
Death and Dying will happen to us all. Having conversations on this topic, at any age, can be tricky yet the more we connect and chat about this lively issue it becomes less scary. One of the participants of Wendy’s ‘Conversations about Death and Dying programs wrote, ‘I really enjoyed being part of the group and it feels true that as I open to exploring and learning and talking about death and dying, I also open to life and living and creating.’
The co-organiser, Rani Foreman, says, “Our vision for this year’s event is a lively ‘market/expo’ at the Woopi Community Gardens. Any and all local businesses, organisations and services in the End Of Life field (Death, Grief, Love, Loss, Ageing Well, Dying Well) will come together in one place to chat to attendees and showcase what they offer in our community. Our passion is to bridge gaps and bring people together to connect, inspire, educate and have meaningful conversations.’
Please join us! Entry by Donation at the gate. If would like to be an exhibitor please reach out. Queries: Rani 0473 452 533.
